The Steinway

The 1862 Steinway Concert Grand Piano.
It was built when Abe Lincoln was president and Queen Victoria was on the throne.
Serial number: 6226, built six years after Steinway & Sons opened their doors.
Built during the Civil War.
This Steinway is rosewood, it is 8 feet 3 inches long, which is a few inches short of a modern concert grand, and has 85 keys (with ivories intact) instead of the modern 88.
This Steinway was first delivered to a 5th avenue Manhattan address in September of 1862.
Another owner of this piano was an Admiral of the Navy stationed in the Washington D.C. area and was transferred to California after Pearl Harbor but the Steinway stayed in Virginia.
Then this Steinway was owned for 70 years by a friend of a friend in McLean, Virginia.
It was then given to the current owner as a Christmas gift.
While in our care the instrument has been used for jazz and classical music concerts by renown musicians.  The instrument is attended by Xaver Wilhelmy, who is a certified pipe organ builder and piano builder.  It currently holds a=438 Hz tuning.
Early 1990's the piano was updated with new sound board, new strings, and the action was renovated.
It is currently in excellent technical and tonal condition.
This Steinway is currently available for sale to the right individual or organization.
